Self-talk! what conversation do you have with your inner-self?
Hmm.. why did that happen? What is left for me to do for the day? Should tomorrow I pass by hmm..? STOP! It’s meditation! Meditate to release anxiety and stress to boost your ability to making wiser decisions on things you stumbled on! Do not over think! Have calmer meaningful self-talks that will be beneficial to you.
This is called self-talk it is the inner conversation you have with yourself that is influenced by your subconscious mind. Thoughts you have depends on your personality your beliefs, traits, questions and ideas. Self-talk can either be encouraging (positive self-talk) or distressing (negative self-talk).
Imagine yourself having an angel on your right side and a devil on your left. Your angel says “yes you can do it!” whilst your devil whispers saying “no you can’t!” block your ears to thoughts and words that are distressing, makes you frustrated and listen well to talks and thoughts that makes you powerful, gives you strength to make things you once thought it was impossible to do!
To support this, sit down and list all of your negative thoughts on a side you can go step by step by listing at least five thoughts. Once you finished noting down all of your negative thoughts and what makes you sad, frustrated all of the distressing feelings you are going through start rephrasing your negative thoughts to more positive thoughts.
“I am afraid to participate in the meeting and share my opinion because I will never be heard if XYZ person is there, since XYZ is always heard and is more knowledgeable given his/her position”.
Rephrase “I am very well filled with knowledge regarding the topic that will be discussed in the meeting therefore I will definitely have my notes down and share my opinion”.
“it is impossible that I could win” trust me! Nothing is impossible or there wouldn’t be a word called “possible” “I am not able to do it” No! you are able to!
Notice there is always an opposite to every word this means there is always the opposite to your negative thoughts too!
Try to be more social in your life and reduce times of you sitting alone basically socially isolated since this can make negative self-talk spiral if you aren’t careful. Given the nature of not being around people to distract you from the bad thoughts.
It is ok to have numerous self-talks, talk to yourself as if you are talking to others share ideas, discuss, motivate yourself, make choices but assure yourself that you are feeding on positive thoughts. Too much of negative thoughts will diminish your brain’s ability to think, focus and form memories.
Self-talks are great way to express your inner feelings with yourself but you should be smart on how to make use of it for prolonged benefits.
